Melvin "Mel" Lenig, 85 years old of Knox, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020 in Plymouth, Indiana.

He was born Monday, September 24, 1934 in LaPorte, Indiana, Son of the late John Lenig and the late Lois(Simcox) Lenig.

February 28, 1960, in North Judson, Indiana, Mel married the former Carol King, she survives him.

Mel served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957.

Mel was a member of the Knox Lutheran Church. He enjoyed classic and antique cars, especially his green Champion Studebaker. Mel's greatest passion was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He worked as a auto detailer.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Lenig of Knox, Indiana, Son, Melvin(Kris) Lenig of Wakarusa, Indiana, Daughter, Wendy Allen of Rockford, Michigan, Daughter, Penny Starr of Knox, Indiana, Daughter, Candy Lenig of Argos, Indiana, 12 grandchildren 6 great-grandchildren 8 great-great-grandchildren, Brother, Lloyd "Butch"(Betty) Lenig of Knox, Indiana, Sister, Judy(Bink) Benninghoff of Knox, Indiana, Sister, Linda Belork of Knox, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by parents John and Lois Lenig and brother John Lenig.

Friends will be received 10 AM till time of service at 1 PM, Friday, September 4, 2020 at the Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Knox, Indiana.

Services will be held at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Friday, September 4, 2020 at 1 PM with rev. Bruce Bennett officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fletcher Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
