Ruth A. Minix Obituary

Ruth Ann (Troyer) Minix, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep early morning Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at her home in Grovertown, IN.

Ruth, known almost exclusively as "Granny" since she was a young girl, was born on November 10, 1942, in Starke County, IN to Irvin Troyer and Leona (Burger) Troyer. While she lived in Starke County most of her life, Granny and her late husband also lived in Chicago, IL and parts of Kentucky for periods of time during their marriage.

On Christmas Eve 1966, in Knox, IN, Ruth married Parniel Minix who preceded her in death in June 2019 after 52 years married. Surviving are sister Carolyn Hensley of Star City, IN and brother John Troyer of Plymouth, IN; daughter Lisa Ann Cordial of Kendallville, IN and grandchildren Melissa (Peter) Schenkel of Ft. Wayne, IN, Derrick (Ashley) Cordial of Auburn, IN, and Chase (Susan) Cordial of Kendallville, IN; daughter Pamela Bradley of North Judson, IN and grandchildren Garry McIntosh Jr. (Brianna) and great-granddaughter Sonora McIntosh of South Bend, IN, and Alyssa McIntosh of Knox, IN; and step-daughter Mary Louise Minix of Texas. Also surviving are many beloved Burger/Cordial/Troyer/Minix family members including great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom Granny loved and cherished her whole life. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Thomas, Dewey, and Charlie Troyer; sisters, Norma Jean and Betty Troyer, Darlene Badsky, Arlene Ritchie, and great-granddaughter Rhiannon McIntosh.

Granny and Parniel ran their little country store from 1980-2004 out of the front of their home at 8980 E 25 N, after Parniel won 52 cases of Pepsi to begin their venture. Neighbors still talk about the store and the many fond interactions they had there. If you knew Granny, you knew the two things she loved as much as her family and friends were: God and bingo. Ruth was baptized July 24, 2022 as part of The Church of Jesus Christ in Argos, IN-something she was so very proud of. Granny held a deep, strong faith in God that she carried with her until the end. Frequenting the local bingo spots, maybe she won and lost some, but one thing for sure is she gained many friends playing throughout the years who will miss her dearly.

Granny loved owls, making up most of her décor, but what you could also find decorating her shelves and walls were school pictures, graduation announcements, and knick knacks she was gifted from her family over the years. You could say, her most prized possessions. She had the most unique gift of making you feel special, like a part of her family whether you actually were or not. So in a way, everyone was family to Ruth. Her love knew no limits and she made it known every opportunity she had. Everyone will miss her laugh, silly sense of humor, her hillbilly stomping around the living room, and doing head-stands well into her later years. Holidays won't be the same without her leading the "grab-bag" gifts-something she looked forward to every time she hosted Christmas Eve-or without her homemade beef and noodles. May she rest peacefully now and reunite with loved ones who I'm sure missed her as much as we all will.

The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, April 4, 2026 from 11AM-1PM central at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox. Funeral service will begin at 1PM in the funeral home with Pastor Jimmy Snyder officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to The Church of Jesus Christ in Argos, IN.
