Melvin R. Mills

Melvin R. Mills, 82 years old of Knox, Indiana, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 in Laporte, Indiana.

He was born Wednesday, June 7, 1939 in Memphis, Tennessee, Son of the late Elbert Mills and the late Dorothy (Smith) Mitchels.

Januart 27, 1962, in New Buffalo, Michigan, Melvin married Judith Hope Paxton, she preceded him on August 24, 2013.

Melvin was a veteran of the US Army and US Navy. He was also a member of the IBEW Union 1393.  He enjoyed listening to country music and reading.  His greatest passion was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He worked as a Lineman.

Surviving are Son, Franklin Mills of Michigan City, Indiana, Daughter, Kathy(Kent) Frain of Topeka, Indiana, 6 grandchildren: Amanda(Jayson) Coldiron of Knox, Indiana, Tiffany(Stephen) Tanksley, Carey(Scott) White of Hamlet, Indiana, Lisa Burt of Knox, Indiana, Hanna(Jermemy) Huffman of Topeka, Indiana, Stephanie(Mark) Webster of Topeka, Indiana, 16 great-grandchildren 1 great-great grandchild, Brother, Elbert(Sherry) Mills of Morris, Illinois, Brother, Allen(Lynne) Mitchels of Michigan City, Indiana, Brother, Lawrence(Arlene) Mitchels of Michigan City, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Mills, daughters  Karen Tanksley and Angel Mills, parents Elbert Mills and Dorothy Mitchels, step-father Larry Mitchels, brother Sherman Mills and sisters Sharon Ciochi, JoAnn Steele, son-in-law Thomas Tanksley,  and grandson-in-law Rusty Burt.

Friends will be received 10 AM till time of service at 2 PM, Sunday, June 12, 2022  at the Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Knox, Indiana.

Services will be held at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Sunday, June 12, 2022 at 2 PM with REV John Haferkamp officiating.

Interment will follow in the Eagle Creek Cemetery, Knox, Indiana.
