Obituary

Following a lengthy illness John Dean Smith of Knox passed away April 10, 2023, in LaPorte, Indiana. He was born April 4, 1959, to J.W. and Faye Smith of Knox. On February 16, 1991, John married Glenna Noble Brown who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother Lawrence of Scappoose, Oregon. Survivors include brothers Stephen Smith of Sunset Beach, NC, Rodger (Gayle) Smith of Knox, Dale (Fay) Smith of Indianapolis, and sister Janan (Virgil) Brown of Plymouth, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews who were very special to John.

John was a 1977 graduate of Knox High School where he excelled at football, baseball, and having a good time. Following stints working in Texas and Indianapolis John and Glenna eventually settled in Knox where he worked as a driver for Yellow River Farms. A lifelong sports enthusiast John was most happy with his many buddies shooting pool or attending drag races sponsored by the National Hot Rod Association.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Donations in John’s honor may be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.
