Derrick Allen Vern Shepherd, age 20, of Knox, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, in Knox. The son of Mark and Essie (Norem) Shepherd, both of Knox, Derrick was born on October 28, 2004, in Knox.
A welder by trade, Derrick worked as a vehicle floor technician at Braun Corporation in Winamac. He was a 10-year member of the Starke County 4-H Horse & Pony Club and had many interests, including working on cars and small engines, riding his motorcycle, and welding. He loved his horse, Jay, and his dog, Cooper.
In addition to his parents, Derrick is survived by two sisters, Kayla and Korie Shepherd, both of Knox, maternal great-grandfather Russell Moore of Knox, paternal grandparents Jeffrey and Phyllis Shepherd of Knox, maternal grandparents, Dennis and Veronica Wilson of Knox, and three uncles, Isaiah (Jessica) and Jacob Wilson, both of Knox, and Jeffrey (Hanim) Shepherd, Jr., of Pickerington, Ohio. Derrick is also survived by his girlfriend, Autumn Ward of Knox.
Derrick was preceded in death by two sisters, Karlie Shepherd and Kyarah Moore, maternal great-grandmother Essilona Moore, and maternal grandfather Richard Norem.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday, April 1, at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox with Pastor Gerald Shadrix officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Central on Monday, March 31, at Braman & Son. Burial will take place at Eagle Creek Cemetery.
The family invites friends to visit with them following the committal service during a luncheon at the Washington Township Community Building, 20 N. State Road 23, Knox, Indiana 46534.
